La Ventana Natural Arch

The area around the La Ventana Arch is called The Narrows. The road follows the small gap left as the lava flows from the west nearly reached the sandstone bluffs.

After passing through Acoma, we stopped for a lunch break at a Subway, then continued on to the La Ventana Natural Arch, the largest natural arch in New Mexico.

The arch was eroded from the sandstone bluffs by wind and water, which were in effect during our visit. Constant thunder and frequent lightning played about the cliff tops as intermittent rain showers fell from the sky.
